UCL Group Stage Preview 11-2-21

UEFA Champions League Group Stage Matchday 4 Preview 11-2-21

Atalanta v Manchester United

This is the best fixture on the plate today. These two played an entertaining battle in the last matchday that saw Manchester United comeback from 2 down to win 3-2 at home. The victory likely saved their manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, from being sacked. With a few weeks gone now the heat on Ole’s seat has barely been reduced but a victory here would go a long way for his job security. Atalanta is a dangerous attacking team and playing at home should give them a boost. Manchester United’s defense has been in shambles recently, especially without Rapheal Varane, and they are attempting to fix this issue by playing 5 at the back today. Just like the last matchup I expect fireworks, unlike the last matchup, I do not see a winner.

The Bet: Both Teams to Score+Over 2.5 Total Goals

Alternate Bet: Draw

Prediction: Atalanta 2-2 Manchester United

Dynamo Kiev v Barcelona

Barcelona travel to the Ukraine in dire need of a win. The Catalan club has only 1 win from 3 games so far in the group stage and are at risk of dropping into the Europa League, a fate unimaginable for a massive club like Barcelona. These two teams met last time the Champions League was in action and Barcelona barely came away with a win at home. Since then they have lost more games and changed their manager and will now hope a new direction can give their players a boost. With dynamic attacker Ansu Fati in the lineup surely there is no way the Blaugrana fail to win here.

The Bet: See My Parlay

Prediction: Kiev 1-2 Barcelona

Bayern Munich v Benfica

Bayern have been steamrolling their competition to start this season. The German club is a perfect 3-0 in the Champions League and is first in the Bundesliga following a 5-2 thrashing of Union Berlin this past weekend. Playing at home, Bayern is nearly unbeatable, and they welcome a lesser squad in Benfica to fold tonight. Benfica have some solid results in this competition but they came against Kiev and a historically weak Barcelona team. Tonight they stand little chance to dispatch a Bayern squad that beat them 4-0 in Portugal just a few weeks ago.

The Bet: Parlay-Bayern to Win+Over 2.5 Goals+Robert Lewandowski to Score

Prediction: Bayern 4-1 Benfica

Juventus v Zenit St. Petersburg

Juventus have had a nightmare start to their Serie A campaign but a dream start to their Champions League run. They are 3-0 to start this competition but sit a dreadful 9th in Italian play. Today they get a relatively weak Zenit side who they dispatched 1-0 in Russia a few weeks ago. St. Petersburg has had good results in Russian play this year but has yet to find that same stride in European play. They have some quality players but the gulf between them and the world class talent in Turin will show through in this game.

The Bet: See My Parlay

Prediction: Juventus 2-1 Zenit St. Petersburg

Sevilla v Lille

This projects to be a tight game. Both these teams have multiple draws in their first 3 Champions League matches with the hosts failing to win or lose every game they've played. Sevilla is in good form in LaLiga but will need to maintain that level of play against the reigning French champions. Lille have not been great in Ligue 1 to start their title defense but they gave PSG a good battle on the weekend and will need that same level of play if they have any chance at winning here on the road. With both teams desperate for points I expect a scrappy affair with neither side wanting to make that mistake and concede an easy one.

The Bet: Under 2.5 Total Goals

Prediction: Sevilla 1-1 Lille

Villarreal v Young Boys

Villarreal have had a very up and down start to their season. The Yellow Submarine is sitting in an awful 13th place in LaLiga despite a strong squad and an experienced manager. The puzzling results are sure to have them gunning for a convincing victory today against their Swiss counterparts. Young Boys secured a massive win over Manchester United to start their Champions League play but have since lost 2 straight by a combined score of 5-1. Young Boys is scrappy and will surely play with a lot of heart but I see Unai Emery and Villarreal using this as a get-right game at home where they are strong.

The Bet: Villarreal to Cover -1.5

Prediction: Villarreal 3-1 Young Boys
