NHL Preview 4-6-21

National Hockey League 4-6-21 Nightly Preview

Washington Capitals v. New York Islanders

Projected Goalies: Vitek Vanecek v. Semyon Varlamov

News flash, Washington blew another 3rd period lead on Sunday. The Capitals led 5-2 against the Devils before having to sweat out a win. This recurring problem for Washington is officially a crisis. The Islanders took advantage of the Capitals shambly defense last time these two teams met by winning 8-4. The Islanders have a stellar home record and tonight will be no different as they will get another win at Nassau Coliseum.

The Bet: Islanders Moneyline

Prediction: Capitals 2-4 Islanders

Florida Panthers v. Carolina Hurricanes

Projected Goalies: Sergei Bobrovsky v. Petr Mrazek

This is an elite Central Division matchup as the red hot Panthers will face off against their fellow contenders from Carolina. Florida has won 6 games in a row and that devastating injury to Aaron Ekblad has not affected their play yet. Aleksandar Barkov returned from injury a few games ago and his presence has been immense for the Panthers. Speaking of returning from injury, Petr Mrazek is back for Carolina and has one start under his belt. Mrazek recorded a shutout on Sunday against Dallas and will look to make it two in a row tonight. The Hurricanes are getting the money here on home ice but the Panthers are the better team overall.

The Bet: Panthers Moneyline

Prediction: Panthers 3-2 Hurricanes

Boston Bruins v. Philadelphia Flyers

Projected Goalies: Jeremy Swayman v. Carter Hart

These two teams met last night and it was the Flyers who walked away with a 3-2 win in overtime. Philadelphia desperately needed that win to stay alive in the hunt for the 4th spot in the East Division. Boston will be forced to play Jeremy Swayman in goal tonight as he will make his first career start. Carter Hart has had a ridiculously tough year but if he can not manage a win against a 22 year old making his first start on a relative emergency basis then he should just cede the starting job to Brian Elliot now and relegate himself to the bench.

The Bet: Flyers Moneyline, Over 5.5 Total Goals

Prediction: Bruins 2-4 Flyers

Tampa Bay Lightning v. Columbus Blue Jackets

Projected Goalies: Andrei Vasilevskiy v. Joonas Korpisalo

The Lightning laid an egg this Easter weekend against Detroit, losing 5-1 to the cellar dwellers. That was the first win for Detroit in Tampa since 2011, they were previously winless in 17 straight road contests against the Lightning. Columbus has always had Tampa’s number, ever since that shocking playoff victory several years ago when Tampa finished #1 in the NHL. The other week I took Columbus as a massive underdog against Tampa and it paid off, I will not push my luck this time around, however.

The Bet: See My Parlay

Prediction: Lightning 2-1 Blue Jackets

Pittsburgh Penguins v. New York Rangers

Projected Goalies: Tristan Jarry v. Igor Shesterkin

Pittsburgh got their lunch fed to them on Saturday as the Bruins ran away with a 7-5 win. Pittsburgh has shocked many people with their ability to not just stay afloat, but push the pace in a crowded East Division despite a pile of injuries. The Rangers have had a mid-season surge to bring their name back into the playoff race and a lot of it has to do with their high end talent producing. Mika Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin have been carrying this team and tonight they get the chance to take on a rather weak Penguins defensive core that is not the fleetest of foot.

The Bet: Rangers Moneyline

Prediction: Penguins 2-4 Rangers

Buffalo Sabres v. New Jersey Devils

Projected Goalies: Linus Ullmark v. Scott Wedgewood

Tonight features a battle between two trade deadline sellers. The Devils have already announced that Kyle Palmieri will be scratched until the deadline in advance of a possible trade while the Sabres have just announced they intend to do the same with Taylor Hall beginning tonight. Anytime you see Ullmark starting for the Sabres they will have their best chance to win just as Wedgewood starting for the Devils means they have a great chance to lose. But, with Buffalo coming in off a win, and New Jersey coming in off a tough loss where they played well, I am wary of riding the underdog Sabres this time out.

The Bet: Under 5.5 Total Goals

Prediction: Sabres 3-2 Devils

Nashville Predators v. Detroit Red Wings

Projected Goalies: Juuse Saros v. Thomas Greiss

Nashville has won 9 of their last 11 games and have jumped from potential trade deadline sellers to legitimate playoff contenders. This turnaround for Nashville has been fueled by great goaltending from both Saros and longtime veteran netminder Pekka Rinne. Tonight they will go up against a Detroit team fresh off of its most impressive win over the Lightning this past weekend. This line is disrespectful to the Predators as they should be way higher favorites than the -150 they are right now.

The Bet: Predators Moneyline

Prediction: Predators 3-1 Red Wings

Dallas Stars v. Chicago Blackhawks

Projected Goalies: Jake Oettinger v. Kevin Lankinen

Dallas’s disappointing season continued on Sunday as they suffered a 1-0 shutout loss against Carolina. The Stars have floundered into mediocrity and have slipped behind the Predators in the race for the 4th spot in the Central Division. These next two games against Chicago will be the deciders as to how their season will finish. Chicago has faded off significantly after their hot start. The shine has worn off Kevin Lankinen and Patrick Kane’s Hart Trophy consideration has disappeared into the bushes like a Homer Simpson gif. I have lost too much money betting on Dallas to right the ship this season and Kane has only scored one goal in his last 9 games meaning he is due tonight for one of those games where he carries Chicago across the finish line.

The Bet: Blackhawks Moneyline

Prediction: Stars 3-4 Blackhawks

Anaheim Ducks v. San Jose Sharks

Projected Goalies: John Gibson v. Martin Jones

If it weren’t for the injuries, the Ducks would be a great underdog pick tonight. Anaheim is missing Hampus Lindholm, Ryan Getzlaf, Troy Terry, Rickard Rakell, and Sam Steel tonight. Those are massive hits to their offense, especially up the middle of the ice. San Jose is quietly rolling as they have won 4 in a row and entered themselves into the conversation for 4th spot in the West Division. The Sharks ought to have no problem tonight on home ice dispatching a weakened Anaheim team.

The Bet: See My Parlay

Prediction: Ducks 1-4 Sharks
