National Hockey League Nightly Preview 4-28-21

St. Louis Blues v. Minnesota Wild

Projected Goalies: Jordan Binnington v. Cam Talbot

St. Louis defeated Colorado 4-1 on Monday night, it was their second straight win over the Avalanche. The short two game win streak has moved the Blues ahead of the Coyotes for the 4th spot in the West Division. Tonight, St. Louis will be looking to create more separation from Arizona with a win over a Wild team that has already qualified for the playoffs. Minnesota last played on Saturday in a 6-3 win over the Sharks. The Wild are among the hottest teams in the NHL seeing as they have won 7 straight games. This game tonight will very much have a playoff feel to it, and despite the Wild being on a long win streak, I think the Blues will win since they will be the more desperate and engaged team.

The Bet: Blues Moneyline

Prediction: Blues 3-2 Wild

Toronto Maple Leafs v. Montreal Canadiens

Projected Goalies: Jack Campbell v. Jake Allen

Toronto last played on Saturday in a 4-1 win over the Jets, their second straight victory over the same opponent. The Leafs sit rather comfortably in first place in the North Division and can further solidify that grip tonight with a win. Montreal snapped a short losing streak last time out as they beat the Flames 2-1 on Monday. The Canadiens are in the thick of a playoff race for the 4th spot in the North Division and need points to make the postseason a reality. While Montreal will be desperate tonight, they will be hampered by a slew of injuries, and that will hold them back from getting a much needed win.

The Bet: Maple Leafs Moneyline

Prediction: Maple Leafs 4-2 Canadiens

Edmonton Oilers v. Winnipeg Jets

Projected Goalies: Mike Smith v. Connor Hellebuyck

These two teams met on Monday and it was the Oilers who came away with a 6-1 win. The commanding victory gave them a slight lead over the Jets for the 2nd spot in the North Division which would give them home ice in a first round matchup. Tonight, both teams are prepared to run it back as they will likely use the same lineups and goalies as the last matchup. Connor McDavid stole the show the other day but you would have to assume Paul Maurice will come out with a better defensive game plan for his side tonight. I am going to take the bounceback Jets tonight considering most teams feel motivated after getting slapped the previous game by a division rival.

The Bet: Jets Moneyline

Prediction: Oilers 3-4 Jets

Colorado Avalanche v. Vegas Golden Knights

Projected Goalies: Devan Dubnyk v. Marc-Andre Fleury

The marquee matchup of today's slate is a top-tier game between Colorado and Vegas. The top 2 teams in the West Division are also among the top 2 teams in all of the NHL. Colorado has dropped 2 straight games, both to St. Louis, while Vegas is in the middle of a 9 game win streak. This game is extremely important for both sides considering the top spot in the West Division will ensure that you don’t have to play the Minnesota Wild in the first round. Tonight, the advantage will go to Vegas, who is going to throw out a full lineup while the Avalanche are currently battling injuries and multiple Covid-19 list exemptions.

The Bet: Vegas Moneyline

Prediction: Avalanche 2-4 Vegas

Anaheim Ducks v. Los Angeles Kings

Projected Goalies: John Gibson v. Cal Petersen

This game doesn't matter so let's keep this simple. If John Gibson starts in goal, take the Ducks, if John Gibson does not start in goal, fade the Ducks

The Bet: See Above

Prediction: NA

Arizona Coyotes v. San Jose Sharks

Projected Goalies: Darcy Kuemper v. Josef Korenar

The late game tonight is a very important matchup for one of the teams involved. The Coyotes are desperate for points as they have seen their loose hold on the last playoff spot in the West Division fall to St. Louis. Arizona dropped a brutal loss to the Sharks on Monday night. San Jose entered that game on a massive losing streak and started a young goalie who was winless in his career yet the Coyotes still could not cash in. Tonight, I expect the Coyotes to not let this opportunity slip through their hands as Korenar will start in goal again and I doubt he can repeat his performance from the other night.

The Bet: Coyotes Moneyline

Prediction: Coyotes 3-1 Sharks
