Toronto Maple Leafs v. Montreal Canadiens
Projected Goalies: Jack Campbell v. Jake Allen
Toronto is on an absolute heater and the main reason is the play of Jack Campbell in net. Campbell has broken the NHL record for most consecutive wins to start a season with 11 in a row. Montreal has started to flounder recently and the injury bug could be a reason why. They have been missing defenseman Ben Chariot for over a month now with a hand injury, Brendan Gallagher has been out over a week with his own hand injury, and goalie Carey Price is banged up too. I have made a lot of money betting on Campbell during his winning streak but I am gun shy tonight. I think his good play continues but Montreal could surprise here.
The Bet: Under 6.5 Total Goals
Prediction: Maples Leafs 2-3 Canadiens
Winnipeg Jets v. Ottawa Senators
Projected Goalies: Connor Hellebuyck v. Anton Forsberg
This game is an absolute mismatch. Winnipeg is winners of 3 in a row and are firmly in a playoff position. Ottawa are losers of 4 in a row and are firmly in the hunt for the 1st overall pick in this summer's draft. The true disparity between these two teams lies in goal where former Vezina Trophy winner Hellebuyck starts for the Jets while Forsberg, owner of a 3.41 GAA, starts for Ottawa. Ride the heavy favorites here tonight.
The Bet: Jets Moneyline, Jets Puckline
Prediction: Jets 4-1 Senators
Chicago Blackhawks v. Columbus Blue Jackets
Projected Goalies: Kevin Lankinen v. Joonas Korpisalo
Neither of these teams look like they will make the playoffs and their trade deadline activity proved that point further. Both teams were sellers and offloaded at least 2 regular roster players. Chicago won this same meeting 4-3 on Saturday and while they have the better record on the season I think Columbus bounces back here tonight. They are facing adversity with their captain traded and one of their top defenseman, Zach Werenski, out for the season; this is typically when John Tortorella coached teams play their best.
The Bet: Blue Jackets Moneyline
Prediction: Blackhawks 2-3 Blue Jackets
Detroit Red Wings v. Carolina Hurricanes
Projected Goalies: James Reimer v. Jonathan Bernier
Detroit pulled off a massive upset when these two teams met on Saturday. The Red Wings walked away with a 5-4 shootout win despite being +270 underdogs. Tonight the Red Wings would have to ask a lot more of their team to pull off the upset again. Carolina is in 1st place in the Central Division and needs points to try to secure an easier first round matchup in the playoffs. 2013 Maple Leafs fans are likely going to have severe flashbacks watching these two former teammates battle it out in goal for their respective clubs.
The Bet: See My Parlay
Prediction: Red Wings 2-4 Hurricanes
Arizona Coyotes v. Colorado Avalanche
Projected Goalies: Ivan Prosvetov v. Philip Grubauer
Arizona is starting to reel at the worst possible time. With about 15 games left in the regular season, the Coyotes desperately need points to make the playoffs. Arizona has dropped 3 in a row and were listless in a 1-0 shutout at the hands of Vegas on Sunday. Colorado is the class of the West Division and has shown 0 signs of slowing down. The Avalanche beat the brakes off of the Ducks yesterday despite starting their backup goalie who has very limited NHL experience. With Grubauer back in net tonight this game is no contest.
The Bet: See My Parlay
Prediction: Coyotes 1-3 Avalanche
Vegas Golden Knights v. Los Angeles Kings
Projected Goalies: Robin Lehner v. Cal Petersen
Vegas was playing a little shaky hockey there for a moment before rattling off two straight wins against Arizona. The Golden Knights were at one point firmly in top spot in the West Division before Colorado knocked them off their perch. Vegas has played better recently because of Robin Lehner who is getting back to the elite level of goaltending everyone knows he has. The Kings sold at the deadline as veteran Jeff Carter was shipped off to Pittsburgh. This is a mismatch on paper and on the ice.
The Bet: Vegas Moneyline, Under 6.5 Total Goals
Prediction: Vegas 5-1 Kings
Anaheim Ducks v. San Jose Sharks
Projected Goalies: Ryan Miller v. Martin Jones
The late game tonight features two squads from California that will likely be golfing all summer long. The Ducks are confirmed as one of the worst teams in the NHL. They sent some of their top prospects down recently just so they wouldn’t lose confidence playing on such a bad team. Anaheim got killed last night and tonight they have to start their veteran backup who allows nearly 4 goals a game on average. San Jose had nearly turned a corner in their season recently, but inconsistencies still plague them. Martin Jones is simply unreliable in the net. He can have games where he stands on his head and then other nights he lets in the softest goals from all over the pond. I have no confidence in either goalie or team so I am going to roll with the over here.
The Bet: Over 5.5 Total Goals
Prediction: Ducks 2-4 Sharks
