New Jersey Devils v. Washington Capitals
Projected Goalies: Scott Wedgewood v. Ilya Samsonov
These two teams met last night in a back-and-forth affair in which the Capitals came away victorious by a score of 4-3. This game was tight right from the start after the Devils capitalized on a goalie error by Vitek Vanacek to jump out to a 1-0 lead before Washington responded a minute later. That trend would continue all game as the Capitals continually rallied quickly after giving up goals and eventually pulled away in the third period behind two goals from the streaking Evgeny Kuznetsov. In the second half of a back-to-back the goalie matchup is always the most important aspect, tonight there is a decisive advantage for Washington.
The Bet: Capitals Puckline, Under 6.5 Total Goals
Prediction: Devils 2-4 Capitals
Anaheim Ducks v. St. Louis Blues
Projected Goalies: Ryan Miller v. Ville Husso
Both of these two teams are currently on multi-game losing streaks. The Ducks have dropped 3 in a row and have failed to score more than 2 goals in each of those games. St. Louis has dropped 2 in a row and only scored once in the two losses. For the Ducks, it is easy to see why they are struggling, they simply aren’t that good. For the Blues, however, it is puzzling since they have a very good roster on paper and were picked in the preseason to make the playoffs. With both teams desperate for goals, and both of their opponents starting backup goalies, we could see more scoring than these two have recently shown, and I think it will favor a better Blues squad in the end.
The Bet: Blues Puckline, Over 5.5 Total Goals
Prediction: Ducks 2-5 Blues
Winnipeg Jets v. Calgary Flames
Projected Goalies: Connor Hellebuyck v. Jacob Markstrom
Winnipeg comes into this game after back-to-back wins over Vancouver this week, the second one being a commanding 5-1 performance. The Jets are now in first place in the North Division yet no one seems to respect them as they go into this game as underdogs according to the odds. The Flames are in a freefall and have dropped 3 straight games, including back-to-back poor performances against last place Ottawa. Calgary is in desperate need of points if they have any chance of making the playoffs. The struggles for the Flames have come from their lack of goal scoring recently, and that will not come easy tonight against an elite goaltender in Hellebuyck.
The Bet: Jets Moneyline, Under 5.5 Total Goals
Prediction: Jets 3-2 Flames
San Jose Sharks v. Arizona Coyotes
Projected Goalies: Martin Jones v. Adin Hill
The Sharks roll into this contest of the heels of two straight wins against the Kings. San Jose has managed to play better recently and a lot of it is because of their defending rather than their scoring. The Sharks have allowed 2 or fewer goals in 3 of their past 4 and Martin Jones is by far and away playing his best hockey of the year in net. Arizona was in a bad rut before notching a 5-4 shootout win over the Avalanche on Tuesday. While that win looks good in the box score, there is something to be said about the Avalanche playing a rookie goalie they had just acquired from Buffalo a few days prior. I am going to chalk up that Coyotes win as an outlier and ride the surprisingly hot goalie from San Jose.
The Bet: Sharks Moneyline
Prediction: Sharks 3-1 Coyotes
