Calgary Flames v. Ottawa Senators
Calgary is reeling at a bad time right now as they have lost 3 of their last 4. The head coaching change they made a few weeks ago seems to have lost its shine as they sit in 6th place in the North Division. The Flames missed a chance to secure an easy 2 points on Monday as they lost 2-1 to Ottawa, who was giving a minor league goalie his first career NHL start. Tonight that same goaltender, Filip Gustavsson, will start again looking to back it two in a row. The Senators have been a pesky team all year that is not afraid to defeat a higher quality opponent. The Flames need this one bad, and I will bank on them responding from Monday’s defeat with a convincing victory today.
The Bet: Flames Puckline
Prediction: Flames 4-2 Senators
Anaheim Ducks v. Minnesota Wild
The Ducks have lost 6 of their past 7 games and currently sit in last place in the Pacific Division. It's no secret that the Ducks are in a rebuild so this isn't a massive surprise, but head coach Dallas Eakins would like his team to play at least a little better. Anaheim currently has some minor Covid-19 issues which has landed 4 of their players on the protocol list. With top-goalie John Gibson still out, the Ducks will again hand the net over to veteran backup Ryan Miller. Minnesota picked up a win over this same Ducks team on Monday by a score of 2-1. Head coach Dean Evason has his team playing above expectations this year and will look to solidify his groups playoff status further with a win tonight. Cam Talbot has also been confirmed as the starter for the second straight game over standout rookie Kappo Kahkonen. This exact matchup was close on Monday, but I expect it to be not-so-close today.
The Bet: Wild Puckline
Prediction: Ducks 1-4 Wild
Buffalo Sabres v. Pittsburgh Penguins
Buffalo’s season quite literally can not go from bad to worse since it is already in the dumpster, but they did receive tough news when goalie Carter Hutton got injured last game against the Rangers. Hutton had only recently returned from injury and was due to give his struggling team a boost before exiting the game with a lower-body injury, he will not play today. In his stead will be Dustin Tokarski, a former minor league/backup goalie in the Montreal organization, who last played in the NHL in 2015. The Penguins will be without Evegni Malkin for another game as he remains week-to-week, however, that will do little to hurt their chances against this Buffalo team.
The Bet: Over 5.5 Total Goals
Prediction: Sabres 3-5 Penguins
Los Angeles Kings v. San Jose Sharks
These two teams met on Monday and it was San Jose getting the better of LA by a score of 2-1. The Sharks needed that win as going into that game they were on a 4 game losing streak. Los Angeles played veteran goalie Jonathan Quick last time out, but will turn back to the youngster Cal Peterson tonight. San Jose’s Martin Jones has played better in net as of late but he is always prone to those games where he gives up 4 or 5 easy ones. Neither one of these teams will make the playoffs, but I think the Kings will at least win this game.
The Bet: Kings Moneyline
Prediction: Kings 3-2 Sharks
Winnipeg Jets v. Vancouver Canucks
Winnipeg handled the Canucks on Monday by a score of 4-0. The Jets needed goalie Connor Hellebuyck to get back on top of his game, and he certainly did the other night, and it's earned him another start this evening. The Canucks have been hit hard by the injury bug recently as all 4 of their starting centers are now out due to one ailment or the other. These hard hits have forced J.T. Miller to move from the wing to the middle of the ice while they also have claimed former Maple Leaf, Travis Boyd, off of waivers. The makeshift lines the Canucks will roll with tonight will hurt their chances of overcoming a Jets team who is strong up the middle.
The Bet: Jets Moneyline, Jets Puckline, Under 5.5 Total Goals
Prediction: Jets 3-1 Canucks
