NHL March 3 - Nightly Preview

Calgary Flames v. Ottawa Senators

Calgary busted a slump last time out against the Senators in Canada’s Capital. Flames coach, Geoff Ward, will hope that win gives his team the energy required to string a few more wins together. The Senators are often a frisky team, but after the Flames extinguished their win streak and returned goaltender Matt Murray to the level he was at earlier this season, this will likely be a contest that slips away fast.

The Bets: Flames Moneyline, Flames Puckline, Over 6.5 Goals

Prediction: Calgary 5-2 Ottawa

Carolina Hurricanes v. Florida Panthers

Carolina and Florida battled hard on Saturday as the Hurricanes saw the win through in the shootout. Backup goaltenders Andrei Nedjelkovich and Chris Dreidger will go at it tonight in the Sunshine State for their respective teams. Dreidger has been very solid this year and has stats that are even better than high priced starter Sergei Bobvrosky. Holding the edge in the battle of the backups, expect the Panthers to win a high scoring affair, as many Hurricanes games tend to be.

The Bets: Panthers Moneyline, Over 6.5 Goals

Prediction: Carolina 3-4 Florida

Vancouver Canucks v. Winnipeg Jets

Vancouver returns to the ice after several days off, a rarity in this Covid-19 season. The Jets have been on a roll recently with 4 straight wins. Thatcher Demko draws the start for Vancouver and has been their better goalie early on in the season. The Canucks are currently in a 4 game losing skid but several days off has allowed them to refocus. It is hard to pick a winner here as each side has independent motivation for a W. Expect a hard checking, close fought battle north of the border.

The Bet: Under 6.5 Goals

Prediction: Vancouver 2-3 Winnipeg

Vegas Golden Knights v. Minnesota Wild

Vegas had a little time off due to rescheduled games and returned to the ice Saturday with a win over the Anaheim Ducks. The play from Vegas was less than stellar but their deep lineup helped them see out the sluggish Ducks in Overtime. The Wild are the NHL’s hottest team right now and haven’t lost in 6 games. This could be a game where Vegas underestimates the Wild and pays the price early, but Marc-Andre Fleury always makes saves when it matters most late in games.

The Bets: Vegas Moneyline, Over 5.5 Goals

Prediction: Vegas 4-2 Minnesota

St. Louis Blues v. Anaheim Ducks

The Blues played a crazy game against the Sharks last time out that finished 7-6. Jordan Binnington has been poor in net all year and on Saturday he was yanked and then threw a temper tantrum, safe to say he is on the bench tonight. His backup, Ville Husso, played great in his relief and ended up allowing St. Louis to come back and get the win. The Ducks are an underwhelming team everywhere except in net, where superstar goalie John Gibson gives them a chance to win every night. The Blues are missing many key players and will need to fight for goals against an Anaheim team that will prefer to grind it out.

The Bet: Under 5.5 Goals

Prediction: St. Louis 3-1 Anaheim

Toronto Maple Leafs v. Edmonton Oilers

Toronto controlled the Oilers last game with a 4-0 shutdown of a team with a high powered offense. The most impressive part was they did it with a backup goalie. Another backup will start tonight in Michael Hutchinson but he does not compare well to the man of record Saturday, Jack Campbell. The Oilers are sure to be upset over their performance last game and a motivated Connor McDavid is a very dangerous Conor McDavid. Check the lineups before puck drop as Auston Matthews is a game time decision, if he is in, add the over to the card.

The Bet: Oilers Moneyline

Prediction: Toronto 3-4 Edmonton

Colorado Avalanche v. San Jose Sharks

Colorado got back in their groove after two thorough wins against the Coyotes. As mentioned earlier the Sharks played a wild back in forth game that saw them score 6 goals and lose to the Blues. If you can give up 7 goals to the Blues, what will happen when you play Nathan MacKinnon and the Avalanche? There is a gulf in quality between these two teams, but San Jose will at least fight to prove to themselves that they are better than allowing 7 goals in one game. Expect the red light to flash a lot, but in the end it will only favor one side.

The Bets: Colorado Puckline, Over 6.5 Goals

Prediction: Colorado 5-3 San Jose

Fancy a Parlay?

Avalanche Moneyline and the Ducks to Cover 1.5 Goals

The Avs are simply better than San Jose and have picked up their play recently, this could be the start of a multi game win streak for Colorado. Good goaltending will keep you in any game and the Ducks have that. The Blues are missing 2 would-be starting centers and a top-4 defenseman in Colton Parayko, this game will be close, and we might even see some OT action.

Daily Fantasy Plays of the Day:

Center: Connor McDavid and/or Leon Draisaitl-It's worth it to pay up for one or both of these studs in a game like this where they are motivated after a poor performance and will face a backup goalie.

Wing: Jonathan Huberdeau-Perhaps the most underrated superstar player in the league. Huberdeau is the straw that stirs the drink for Florida and is involved in everything they do offensively.

Defense: Rasmus Andersson-Sneaky good value for a defenseman that plays first line power play minutes in a game against Ottawa.

Goalie: David Rittich-Plug and play the goalie of record versus Ottawa, you will win more times than you will lose (or your money back).

Utility: Andre Burakovsky-Gabe Landeskog has been slow out of the gate this season which allows Burakovsky to get more exposure to MacKinnon. Andre sees powerplay time and has a favorable matchup against San Jose in what should be a high scoring affair.
