Major League Baseball Daily Preview 7-19-21

Texas Rangers v. Detroit Tigers

Projected Starters: Kyle Gibson v. Casey Mize

This is an uninspiring series between two poor clubs but tonight we get their better pitchers on the mound in Gibson and Mize. Kyle Gibson has a sparkling 2.29 ERA in over 100 innings pitched this season while Casey Mize has around a 3.5 ERA and a decent strikeout to walk ratio. Neither team is known for their hitting prowess and with two strong arms on the mound we could see a low scoring affair in the Motor City.

The Bet: Under 9.5 Total Runs

San Diego Padres v. Atlanta Braves

Projected Starters: Yu Darvish v. Kyle Muller

This is a mismatch on paper and on the field. The Braves are a solid ball club but right now they just aren’t in the same realm as the Padres. San Diego has 10 more wins than Atlanta and tonight gets their All-Star ace, Darvish, on the mound against a Braves pitcher with only 15.2 innings pitched on the season. When you add in the fact that Atlanta is missing Acuna, Ozuna, d’Arnaud and Inciarte, this game gets even further out of hand.

The Bet: Padres Runline

Los Angeles Angels v. Oakland Athletics

Projected Starters: Shohei Ohtani v. Cole Irvin

This is an elite AL West matchup as we get the face of baseball, Shohei Ohtani, going up against the playoff bound Athletics on national TV via the MLB Network. Ohtani was my preseason bet to win AL MVP and currently he is on pace to be a finalist for the award. The dual threat All-Star started the Midsummer Classic as both the starting pitcher and the leadoff hitter. Tonight, however, Ohtani will be on the short end of the stick as he goes up against a strong Oakland squad. When both teams are fully healthy, this is a tossup, but with the Angels missing Trout and Rendon, there can be only one winner.
