Miami Marlins v. Washington Nationals
Projected Starters: Pablo Lopez v. Jon Lester
Both of these teams had a day off yesterday after securing high scoring wins on Wednesday. The Marlins scored an upset win over the Brewers while the Nationals bounced back with a big win over the Blue Jays following a stinker on Tuesday. Lopez is a strong arm for the Marlins boasting solid stats through the early part of the season. Jon Lester will make his Nationals debut after signing in the offseason then contracting Covid-19 right before Opening Day. There are definitely questions looming about whether Lester can bring his A-game and this leads me to side with the over tonight.
The Bet: Over 7.5 Total Runs
New York Mets v. Philadelphia Phillies
Projected Starters: Marcus Stroman v. Chase Anderson
The Mets laid an absolute egg in their last game as Jacob deGrom twirled a gem and they still lost 1-0. The Mets have had an awful time at the plate this season, ranking 29th in the league in runs scored. Luckily for them they have Stroman on the mound who have been great so far this season while the Phillies have Anderson on the mound who has been, not great. Anderson is 0-3 on the year with an ERA of nearly 6.50. If the Mets can’t win this game they aren’t deserving of the massive financial commitment from their new owner.
The Bet: Mets Moneyline
Chicago Cubs v. Cincinnati Reds
Projected Starters: Jake Arrieta v. Wade Miley
This NL Central matchup features two teams trending in opposite directions. The Cubs are fresh off an impressive 9-3 win over the Braves while the Reds were spanked 8-0 by the Dodgers on Wednesday and have lost 7 of their last 10. Both teams will have solid pitchers on the mound tonight that have been around the block but it is Arrieta who will secure the win as the Reds bats are lacking confidence having scored 2 or less runs in 3 of their last 5 games.
The Bet: Cubs Moneyline
Baltimore Orioles v. Oakland Athletics
Projected Starters: John Means v. Mike Fiers
The Orioles enter this game fresh off an extra inning 4-3 win over the Yankees last night. Baltimore is a poor team without much going for them but one positive so far this year is the pitching of John Means who is on the mound again here tonight. Means is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 30 innings pitched. Oakland won 3-2 last night over the Rays, it was their 4th straight game in which the under has hit. Mike Fiers makes his season debut but the veteran is a good player with solid stuff.
The Bet: Under 8.5 Total Runs
Colorado Rockies v. Arizona Diamondbacks
Projected Starters: Jon Gray v. Madison Bumgarner
These two teams met last night and it was the Diamondbacks who came away with a 5-3 win. The loss was the second straight for the Rockies. On the other hand, that win marked the Diamondbacks 8th victory in their last 10 games. Gray has better stats on the season than Bumgarner but Bumgarner is coming off a pseudo no-hitter where he allowed no hits in a 7 inning doubleheader victory. I expect Bumgarner and the D-Backs to continue their respective hot streaks tonight on their home field against a lowly Rockies squad.
The Bet: Diamondbacks Moneyline
San Francisco Giants v. San Diego Padres
Projected Starters: Logan Webb v. Yu Darvish
San Francisco has been one of the most impressive teams of the season so far. The Giants are shockingly in first place in the NL West with a 16-9 record backed by the second best runs allowed statistic in the league. San Diego has been up and down this season but when they are on they are among the best in the league. Records and numbers point to the Giants but the Padres have Yu Darvish, a gamebreaker, on the mound while the Giants are throwing out a guy from the back end of their rotation.
The Bet: Padres Runline
