MLB Preview 4-20-21

Major League Baseball Daily Preview 4-20-21

Chicago White Sox v. Cleveland Indians

Projected Starters: Carlos Rodon v. Zach Plesac

Rodon will start tonight for the first time since throwing a no hitter in his last appearance. Rodon is part of a strong White Sox rotation that is 10th in runs allowed per game. Cleveland will have a competent starter on the mound themselves in Plesac who is part of a rotation that ranks 6th in runs allowed per game. It's hard to go against a guy coming off a no hitter and the White Sox have a much better offense than Cleveland which will be the difference in what should be a close, low scoring affair.

The Bet: White Sox Moneyline

Arizona Diamondbacks v. Cincinnati Reds

Projected Starters: Zac Gallen v. Luis Castillo

Arizona is 6-10 and are the 5th worst team in runs allowed per game while the Reds are 9-6 and rank 1st in runs allowed per game. I have no idea why this total is at 7.5 and not 9.5, the over should hit here easily. Gallen is not an ace and Castillo might be the Reds top arm but he has had a below average start to the season.

The Bet: Over 7.5 Total Runs

St. Louis Cardinals v. Washington Nationals

Projected Starters: Adam Wainwright v. Patrick Corbin

Neither one of these two starters have had good starts to the season but both are capable of being far better pitchers. Wainwright owns solid career numbers against Washington, as does Corbin against St. Louis, including a steller postseason outing against them in 2019. The total is inflated in this game because of both teams' poor pitching staffs this season but I expect some regression to the mean tonight in the Nation's Capital.

The Bet: Under 9.5 Total Runs

Toronto Blue Jays v. Boston Red Sox

Projected Starters: Hyun Jin Ryu v. Eduardo Rodriguez

This is a prime AL East matchup at Fenway Park tonight. Ryu is the Blue Jays ace, who they signed in free agency, and he has started the season with a sub 2.00 ERA in nearly 20 innings pitched. Rodriguez was the ace of the future for Boston before Covid-19 derailed his career last year, although, he has bounced back very nicely this season with a 2-0 record so far. The Red Sox are an impressive 11-6 on the season but it will be the underdog Blue Jays who walk away with a win tonight on the heels of another stellar pitching performance from Ryu.

The Bet: Blue Jays Moneyline

Texas Rangers v. Los Angeles Angels

Projected Starters: Jordan Lyles v. Shohei Ohtani

The most electric player in baseball takes center stage in this game as Shohei Ohtani will both pitch and hit. Ohtani has only started one other game on the mound this year but he looked strong in just over 4 innings pitched. His batting numbers have been very good this season and he should give the Rangers average starting pitcher, Lyles, some fits at the plate. This is a mismatch on paper as well as on the field and it is almost cynical to bet against a player of Ohtani’s caliber.

The Bet: Angels Runline

Fancy a Parlay?

Doublehead Style: Athletics to win Game 1 and Twins to win Game 2

Throwing out a fun little parlay here that will return incredible odds. The Athletics and Twins play a doubleheader today and I am looking to correctly predict a split result with Oakland taking game 1 with Sean Manaea on the mound while Minnesota takes Game 2 with Jose Berrios on the mound.
